Can You Fit Bathroom Wall Panels to Uneven Walls?
There are a host of reasons for the recent surge in popularity when it comes to waterproof bathroom wall panels, the biggest reason being the ease of installation compared to tiles.
Bathroom wall panels are easier to install than ceramic tiles, though you might be surprised at just how quickly you can achieve an amazing transformation in your bathroom. Before jumping right in with putting your new panels on your walls, be sure you know exactly how to prep your bathroom walls to get the best results.
The first steps you need to take is the same as a regular decorating job - making sure your walls are clean of grease and dust. Also, make sure to sand down any high spots and fill-in any low spots to your walls to make sure your surface is flat and smooth while removing any wallpaper as these things could make it difficult to get a strong bond between the panel and your wall.
With Multipanel Bathroom Wall Boards, their Hydrolock® tongue and groove system not only provides a watertight, almost seamless join, it can also give you some leeway when fitting to walls that aren't perfectly level. The hydrolock system will click effortlessly in place, even on walls with a bow of up to 6mm, without the need for joining profiles.
Can You Fit Bathroom Wall Boards Onto Uneven Walls?
The older your home is, the more likely it is you'll face the issue of uneven walls. Fitting panels directly onto these walls could affect the quality of the joints and the integrity of the adhesive. So rather than dealing with the worry and headache that comes with hoping your nice new Multipanel wallboards are going to last, it's best to properly prep the walls to ensure they install straight and plumb.
An uneven wall can be straightened out by replastering, this will fix any issues with installing the boards but will add cost and time to having your new bathroom ready to go. If your walls are very uneven, you might need to have a batten frame built over the wall to create a level surface.
The downside to fitting a batten frame is it reduces the dimensions of the room, but it will make the installation go a lot more smoothly and give you space between the wall and panel to conceal things such as pipework for shower valves and wiring for wall-mounted lights and LED mirrors.
After checking that your walls can support a screw hold, ensure that a batten is placed under every panel join for extra support, with extra battens also used for things like wall hung basins and toilets.
Can You Fit Bathroom Wall Boards Onto Tiles?
Many bathrooms have walls that are half tiled, but some have the tiles mounted to cement, which can be difficult to remove cleanly. An easier solution to this is to leave the existing tiles in place and add battens to the wall above. This gives you a straight and plumb surface to mount your bathroom wallboards.
Using the method above of ensuring that panel joints are reinforced with a batten will give you a high-quality finish to transform your bathroom.
Bathroom wall panels can be the perfect solution to your bathroom upgrades. With the right preparation, you will have an easy to maintain wall that looks amazing for years to come, and it's cheaper than tiles!
