Important information to remember when using ready mixed tile adhesives

Ready mix tile adhesives, also referred to as tubs of adhesive, are popular choice from both professional tilers and DIY. Professional like ready mix as it helps to reduce times as no mixing of adhesive is required and DIY enthusiast like it because they don’t need to work about mixing the adhesive incorrectly. However there are some things to remember when using ready mix tiles adhesive.

1. British Standard 5385 states that the largest tile size to be fixed using a ready mixed adhesive is 300 x 300 ceramic (large porcelains should not be used).
2. Apply the adhesive in straight lines only; dot & dab is not an approved method.
3. An application thickness of 2-4mm should be used, this will ensure drying times are accurate.
4. 24 hours is an exceptable time to grout, not an indication that the adhesive has fully cured.
5. The adhesive will fully cure over time depending on temperature, tile size, substrate porosity and grout joint thickness.
