Items people forget when buying a bath
Items people forget when buying a bath
Baths are sold as baths only but normally include the legs set (if required) to install the bath. When buying a bath there are a couple of extra items you may require which many people forget about. Here is a list of items you may or may not require depending on your installation:
Bath Panels
Bath panels, both the front panel (the large panel) and the end panel, are not included with the purchase of a bath and are sold separately. Bath panels are sold separately as some installations require different panels than what many class as a standard bath panel. This may include a tile-able bath panel or a colour-matched panel to match the bathroom furniture.
Bath Wastes
Don’t forget your plug and chain. Baths are sold without a waste as there are different types available. Bath wastes can include a simple plug and chain, a pop-up bath waste or a sprung bath waste. Pop up bath wastes are operated, open and closed, by turning a handle on the bath overflow. Sprung bath wastes, often referred to as clicker wastes, are operated by pushing the plug itself and it will spring open or click closed. Other wastes including electrically operated are also available. Bath wastes are sold separately to allow you to purchase the right bath waste for your installation.
Bath trap
Now you have a bath waste, you will now need a bath trap to stop unwanted smells. Bath traps are available in different sizes to suit different size pipework, but if you are having a new bath installed and able to install new waste pipe, we would recommend using a 40mm, inch and a half, pipe for the best flow.
Shower Screen or Curtain
If you’re planning to have a shower installed over the bath, you will require something to stop shower water from splashing over your floor. If you are looking to purchase a P shape or L shape shower bath these will require a dedicated glass screen which may be included as part of a package, but are normally sold separately. If you are purchasing a straight bath a glass shower bath screen or a shower curtain can be used. If you are looking for a shower curtain, you will require a curtain rail and a curtain. You may also consider a min fixed shower screen to combine the bath of a glass screen combined with a shower curtain for maximum protection.
Bath Taps
With the large range of bath fillers available, baths are not sold including taps and baths often come undrilled allowing for different styles of taps to be installed in different locations on the bath. It is also worth noting that bath taps do not come with flexible hoses which are also sold separately.
So if you are looking to purchase a new bath, don’t forget you may or may not need the extra items listed above. If you require more information please free to contact us at Rubberduck Bathrooms and we would be more than happy to offer you more advice.
