Belfast Kitchen Sinks
Belfast sink can be seen in every kind of kitchen design, in period properties and the most modern of apartments. The Belfast sink is a variant of the Butler sink, the original solid fireclay rectangular sink, installed by the Victorians for their domestic staff. The Belfast is identical to the Butler except for the addition of an overflow weir. One story is that the Belfast sink was originally made for Irish export. In Ireland there was no restriction on water supply and the overflow offered protection against accidental flooding.
Butler Kitchen sinks
Butler sinks are very similar to Belfast sinks but are often shallower and slightly wider. The Butler sink was originally designed for the Butler’s pantry in London in victorian Times when water wasnt as ready available. Historically, Butler sinks didn't feature an overflow to save water, but you'll find that many modern variations do. However, you'll only find a weir overflow on a Belfast sink.
Farm House Kitchen Sinks
When you think of a classical country kitchen you would normally picture an Aga and, of course, a shiny white Belfast sink. Belfast sinks are made from ceramic and are a lot tougher than you might have originally thought.
Ceramic, however, has plenty of tricks up its sleeves. Belfast sinks are resistant to just about anything you could throw in it for a start. Plus, Belfast sinks are really easy to keep looking clean because it won’t scratch, unlike ordinary Stainless Steel kitchen sinks.
