Smart Toilets - why would you want to install one?

You may think that having a smart toilet installed is a niche option, only for the rich and the tech savvy. However, they are now so affordable and customer friendly, that anyone can benefit from having one installed. Smart toilets (sometimes called Japanese toilets) come with a wide variety of useful features, from white noise or music to cancel out unpleasant sounds, to self cleaning pans and built in washing and drying features. The features* mentioned in this article will apply to most smart toilets available.

There are quite a few options available, and which type you ultimately choose will depend on the overall look you are trying to achieve with the bathroom or ensuite, and naturally, budget. The standard and most popular models are the back to wall or wall hung pans with concealed cisterns for customers aiming for a minimalist look, and for those not wanting to have a fully installed model, there are seat only options available. Regardless of the model you choose, smart toilets have some excellent features, we hope after reading on you will be as convinced as we are that they are a ‘smart’ choice.

Smart toilets are user friendly

Considering the numerous functions and features you would be led to think they are difficult to install and use, however, they are surprisingly user friendly and have dedicated functions and modes designed for a wide variety of users, such as multiple washing options (including gender specific washing options).

Depending on the manufacturer, most models will come with a remote control and in some cases with an app to control most of the features via your smartphone. This makes the toilet much more accessible for those with disabilities, who may find pressing flush buttons and turning handles difficult.

There are a variety of adjustable comfort settings such as toilet seat temperature, water temperature, drying temperature and even a night light, reducing the need to put on the main bathroom light for late night visits.

Smart toilets are quiet and convenient

Night-time usage is made much less inconvenient both for the user and others in the home. The soft close seat on some models will rise and close automatically on sensing the user approaching or leaving the toilet, preventing it from being accidentally dropped and waking anyone up. There is also a nightlight function available meaning you will not need to switch on the main bathroom light in the early hours when you are still half asleep.

Smart toilets are space savers

Smart toilets are excellent space savers. Many customers would like to have a bidet installed alongside their WC but do not have the available space. Smart toilets provide a two in one solution to the problem. Most if not all smart toilets will have integrated washing and drying facilities, including gender specific functions, completely eliminating the need for a separate bidet or thermostatic douche kit.

Smart toilets are easy to maintain

Many of the features on smart toilets are automated to make it even more convenient to use and maintain. For example, many of the models available include a self-cleaning jet nozzle, a de-calcification feature to prevent limescale, and automatic pan cleaner, meaning not only are they easy to maintain, but are also much more hygienic. You will find that most of the cleaning functions are either automatic or can be operated by remote control, eliminating the need to touch the toilet with your hands.
