Top 10 Things to
Consider When Building
a Walk-In Shower

Making sure you have the right walk-in shower to complement your bathroom is a difficult choice, so here are some tips to make sure you get the best.

Make The Most of Your Space

Before you do anything, check you have the right space for a walk-in shower. Look at the available space, where you want the entrance or doors to go and how it fits with your existing bathroom suite. Getting this right to begin with will make the rest of the task easier.

Think about Materials

Tiles or lino? Stone or plastic shower tray? Glass or acrylic? All these decisions will shape your final build or purchase. Think about how the materials will fit with your bathroom, how easy they will be to clean and what will work with your budget.

Storage

It's easy to overlook the need for storage if you're moving from a shower over a bath to a walk-in shower, but it is very important! To save yourself falling over bottles and sponges in the shower, think about wall mounted storage racks or even hooks for hanging bottles.

Usability

How easy your shower is to use will make a huge difference to your showering. Look for taps the right height and slideable or easy to use doors.

Attention to Detail

Showers can come in a wildly different array of sizes, shapes and patterns, so make sure you research carefully and pick the one you feel most comfortable with.

Fixtures & Fittings

Does your shower suit a monsoon head or will a traditional showerhead fit? There are loads of different options, from the ordinary to the extraordinary, so take your time to choose the best fit.

accessories

Why not make your shower stand out? We're not talking about flat screen TVs here (although that is an option!) but
you can get inexpensive music systems, Jacuzzi jets and aromatherapy lights built in to your unit, making it stand out and giving your bathroom a unique feel.

Doors or no Doors?

If you have the space you might want to create a “doorless” walk-in shower. These can be quite easily achieved if you have a tiled bathroom or wet room. The simplistic design of a single plate of glass running from floor to ceiling gives the illusion of more space while also giving you loads of room while showering.

Have a Clear Vision

Before you buy or instruct a builder to start work on your shower, make sure you have a clear vision of what the final design will look like. Changing your mind halfway through will prove costly and time consuming so it is best to research first before buying materials or calling in a plumber.

Have Fun

Buying a new shower doesn't have to be a chore. While building work can be disruptive, enjoy the experience of
creating your new shower from scratch. That way when the dust settles and the work is finished, you can enjoy a long, hot shower without any worries.
